Challenge:
Coop is a member owned grocery chain running 800 stores across Sweden, requiring omnichannel integration and payment support. Starting in 2022 Coop wanted to maintain reliable payment and loyalty services whilst reducing costs by consolidating and modernizing its application landscape. This scope covers key products including mobile payments, digital gift cards, point of sales integration as well as accounting systems and customer master data.
Solution:
Coop partnered with Irori to execute system consolidation with maintained reliability. The payments area was tasked to support new initiatives regarding point of sales systems and payment service provisioning. Loyalty applications were migrated to a unified technical platform. This enabled a significant reduction in team size, whilst increasing functional scope. Key to success was unified service and data architecture, purposeful cross training and organization of a proactive support function to catch performance issues early.
Results:
- Unified service and data architecture, running Kafka to connect endpoints making data access easy for teams and partners.
- Reliable feature velocity, from business need to deployed feature.
- Reduction of service costs combined with lean open source platform for application layer, pipeline tooling and platform.
- Stable service delivery with uninterrupted payment flows.
